Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College, or BNU-HKBU United International College (UIC, Chinese: 北京师范大学-香港浸会大学联合国际学院) is the first university founded in cooperation between the higher education sector in Mainland China and Hong Kong, and the first new liberal arts university in China, located in Zhuhai, a very livable city in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.
UIC has a team of outstanding faculty members from more than 30 countries and regions, and is taught in English, with academic standards in line with international standards. The University has four academic departments: Business Administration, Culture and Creativity, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Technology, as well as a Graduate School.
UIC is located in Zhuhai Special Economic Zone, a beautiful seaside city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area and southern China. Zhuhai is adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao and connected by the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge; it has a beautiful ecological environment and has been named the most livable city in China for years.
Students and faculty from all over the world meet at UIC, where different cultures collide and mingle, and scholars from home and abroad come to give lectures and exchange academics, expanding the international perspective of students and faculty. UIC has established partnerships with over 50 foreign universities, providing rich opportunities for students to travel, exchange, and experience foreign cultures and education.
UIC introduces a wide range of outstanding talents worldwide and continuously optimizes and upgrades its faculty. Currently, faculty members come from more than 30 countries and regions, 100% of full-time lecturers and above have overseas study or work experience, and 87% of full-time faculty members in the four academic departments hold Ph. D. UIC has introduced several heavyweight experts and scholars and is among the top 100 high-end talents in Chinese universities. In the recent list of the top 2% of scientists in the world released by Stanford University, seven scholars from UIC have been selected.
A solid professional foundation, well-rounded personal qualities and good English proficiency have enabled UIC students to excel in further education, employment and entrepreneurship.
UIC graduates have made good progress in further education, employment and entrepreneurship. Over 72% of the 2020 undergraduate graduates choose to go on to higher education, with a delivery rate of 74.4% to the top 100 global universities. The employed students are highly sought after by Fortune 500 companies and government agencies.
UIC moved to the current campus located at Jin Tong Road in the fall of 2017. The campus can accommodate 6,000 students and 1,000 faculty and staff. The buildings include a cultural and creative cluster, a gymnasium, a university hall, a performance hall, a teaching building, a learning resource center, etc.
The 2nd phase of the UIC campus will be used for the construction of science and engineering disciplines and graduate school, and will be an important base for science, engineering, cross-discipline, emerging technologies, and industrial transformation, with the overall project expected to be fully operational by September 2025. UIC will also form a second campus with a focus on “science and technology” and a second campus with a focus on “technology and graduate school” to promote the deep integration of the university campus with the local culture and form a unique university town.
