About Taiyuan University
Taiyuan University, is a full-time general higher education institution organized by Taiyuan Municipal People’s Government and approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.
The university was established in 1984 with a focus on college education. In 2013, it was upgraded to a comprehensive general undergraduate institution and renamed with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
The university consists of Fen Dong Campus, Damling Campus, Fudong Campus and Binhe Campus. The campus has a construction area of 344,700 square meters, a total value of 69.04 million yuan of teaching and research instruments and equipment, a library of more than 1.3 million books, and 4.24 million electronic books; 17 departments, including the Department of Chinese, the Department of Architecture and Engineering, the Department of Political Science and Law, and the Department of Science and Chemistry, 2 teaching departments, 2 teaching centers, and 1 college of continuing education. There are 37 undergraduate majors and 22 specialist enrollment majors; 950 faculty members, 25 professors, and 16,423 students.
History
In 1983, the Taiyuan branch of Shanxi University, the Taiyuan branch of Shanxi University of Finance and Economics, the Taiyuan branch of Taiyuan Institute of Technology, and the Taiyuan branch of Shanxi Agricultural University were established respectively.
In 1984, they merged into TYU.
In 2002, Taiyuan Education College, Taiyuan Normal School, and Taiyuan Landscape Technical School were merged with the abolition of the original organizational system.
In November 2003, the Taiyuan City Gardening Technical School and the Gardening Research Institute were established and transferred to the Taiyuan City Education Bureau.
In the fall of 2011, the university officially moved to Fendong Education Park.
In April 2013, approved by the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to a comprehensive general undergraduate college.
In September 2014, the Foreign Language Teachers College and Education College merged.
On July 5, 2017, the school-enterprise cooperation signing and licensing ceremony of TYU and Taiyuan Garden Plant Research Center was successfully held in the conference hall of Taiyuan Garden Plant Research Center.
Scientific Research Platform
The university and the Shanxi Academy of Social Sciences have co-established the Taiyuan Research Center for Sanjin Culture and Tourism Development.
International Cooperation
The University has formally signed cooperation agreements with Colorado State University (USA), Fraser Valley University (Canada), and I-Shou University (Taiwan) for international cooperation in student training, faculty exchange, academic research, etc.
