About the School of International Studies

The School of International Studies (SIS) started in 2005. It teaches foreign languages and cultures to students. It has 19 teachers from different countries.

The courses at SIS help students learn foreign languages and understand languages and cultures.

Responsibilities

1. Teach 16 English classes a week (45 minutes each);
2. Teach English courses like Academic English, Verbal Communication, Writing, Translation, and culture to English students;
3. Plan, teach, and check your classes by SIS rules;
4. Test your students and grade their work;
5. Do what SIS asks you to do for teaching;
6. Learn new things for teaching, like going to meetings, discussions, and seminars;
7. Join in program activities, like training, orientation, workshops, placement tests, etc.;
8. Make and join in activities and events on and off campus (English corner, speech contest, etc.);
9. Have 2 office hours a week to help students who need more help.

Salary, Benefits and Terms

Monthly salary: 9667 RMB (before tax)+stipends (2500 RMB, before tax )
Free place to live in the faculty apartment
12-month contract (from September 1 to August 31)

We are looking for teachers

-Who speak English as their first language;
-Who have a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an English-speaking country;
-Who have taught ESL/EFL for two years or more to adult learners;
(Note: You don’t need two years of teaching experience if you have a degree in English, education, linguistics, or a TEFL certificate from your country or an international one. If you don’t have these things, you need to get a TEFL certificate by going to training by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs [SAFEA])
-Who can work for one year;
-Who care about students and teaching;
-Who are creative and flexible to teach in a new way;
-Who are aware of cultural differences;
-Who can teach more than one subject for 16 classes a week;
-Who can work with other teachers at the Writing Center to help students with their English for school and work;
-Who can help make materials and do workshops for the SIS Teacher Professional Development Program.
