PEKING UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF TRANSNATIONAL LAW (“STL”) in Shenzhen, China seeks a creative and motivated individual for the position of the Executive Assistant of STL Law Library. STL offers an engaging bilingual and collaborative working environment, which will hone and promote the candidate’s abilities to work in a cross-cultural professional environment.

Position Objective

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Executive Assistant of Library performs a variety of tasks including circulation, collection development, customer service, supervision of student assistants, and coordinates facility maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs circulation desk procedures, such as check-in/check-out materials, renewal, holds and patron registration. Ensures law library is open regularly and circulation desk is staffed appropriately. Evaluates circulation operating procedures, and makes adjustments as needed to improve efficiency.
  2. Provides patrons with general information on library services; assists and instructs patrons in using library services, equipment, and facilities.
  3. Checks and updates library’s website–LibGuides regularly.
  4. Checks and processes all kinds of library emails daily.
  5. Sorts and routes mail.
  6. Organizes library materials and files.
  7. Orders library supplies. Maintains performance and order or repair of circulation equipment.
  8. Delivers library materials to faculty and checks in deliveries of interlibrary loan materials.
  9. Assists in the processing (cataloging, labelling, tagging, etc.) of library materials.
  10. Assists in conducting collection evaluations.
  11. Assists in enforcing library circulation policies and library rules and regulations.
  12. Supervises and works with student assistants.
  13. Designs and updates library promotional materials.
  14. Helps organize library events, such as library orientation and tour, and schedule space for special events by patron’s request.
  15. Reports work accomplished to directors.
  16. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors and the public.
  17. Performs other tasks as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or above.
  2. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
  3. Working proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Highly motivated and able to work under pressure and multi-task management; detailed-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. A degree in Library and Information Science.
  2. Knowledge of basic library materials, policies and procedures.
  3. Previous work experience in an academic institution.
  4. Knowledge of Chinese and/or US law.

Location:

University Town, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China.
