Principal Investigator Positions in the Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen
Located in the Longgang District of Shenzhen, China, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen, CUHKSZ) is a research-intensive university, established in 2014 through a Mainland–Hong Kong collaboration with generous support from the Shenzhen Municipal Government. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (founded in 1963 and ranked 46th in the world in the QS 2018 global rankings). The University aspires to evolve into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing talented scientists with global perspective, Chinese tradition and social responsibility. English is the main language for course instructions, and the students will receive degrees of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. At present, several research centers have been established in the School of Medicine, School of Science and Engineering and School of Life and Health Sciences, including Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery, Warshel Institute of Computational Biology, Ciechanover Institute of Precision and Regenerative Medicine and Hopcroft Institute for Advanced Study in Information Sciences.
The Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery (“KIIDD” hereafter) is an independent and non-profit state-of-the-art biomedical research institution founded by Prof. Brian Kobilka in 2017. The KIIDD will utilize comprehensive and cross-disciplinary tools to empower its talented scientists to explore new pathways to drug discoveries in several therapeutic areas. Everyone at KIIDD shares the same value that the best discoveries will originate from bringing diverse ideas, approaches, and people together to address scientific challenges in creative ways. The KIIDD is equipped with cutting-edge research resources and core facilities including a world-class CryoEM center with two 300kV Krios G3i.
Brian Kobilka is an American physiologist and the 2012 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry for seminal discoveries that reveal the inner workings of an important family G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). A primary focus of KIIDD will be GPCRs and other membrane proteins, and the research efforts will be undertaken by diverse research groups in the fields of Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Computational Biology and Pharmacology. The long-term goal of the Institute is to serve as a bridge and platform to translate early drug discoveries into new therapeutics targeting GPCRs and other important disease-related protein targets. The KIIDD is physically located and affiliated at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), which is greatly supported by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Longgang District Government and CUHKSZ. To be a highly influential drug discovery center in south China and worldwide, the KIIDD is actively recruiting talented scientists in different areas and levels.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in biology, chemistry, pharmacy, medicine, or other relevant fields. Postdoctoral experience is required for a junior PI position (Tenure-track Assistant Professor level). Applicants for senior PI positions (Associate and Full Professor level) are expected to have a demonstrated publication and funding record as a leading scientist. Positions will remain open until filled.
