More Information

NYU Shanghai is currently inviting applications for a position at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor in Anthropology. The position is expected to begin in September 2022.

Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions with respect to research start-up funds and compensation, and they include housing subsidies and educational subsidies for children. Faculty may in certain cases have the opportunity to spend time at NYU New York and other sites of the NYU Global Network, engaging in both research and teaching.

We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related discipline. A focus on the anthropology of China is preferred but not required. We invite candidates of all specializations to apply, but candidates with a focus in the Anthropology of Gender, Economic Anthropology, Medical Anthropology, or Urban or Environmental Anthropology, are of particular interest. Candidates with these specialties would join an interdisciplinary Social Science faculty with research priorities in Health and Well-Being, Sexuality and Gender, Poverty and Inequality, and Urban and Environmental Studies, as well as faculty in Humanities and Global China Studies with research interests in Gender, Urban Studies, Geography, and Migration. We seek scholars with a strong record of research, or a potential for research for early career candidates.

Additionally, applicants will be prompted to enter the names and email addresses of at least three referees. Each referee will be contacted to upload a reference letter through Interfolio.
