About Faculty of Foreign Languages, Guangdong Ocean University
The Faculty of Foreign Languages, established in December 2003, comprises the English Department, the Japanese Department, College English Teaching Section 1 and Section 2, the Language Training Center, and the Foreign Language Teaching Research Institute.
The faculty has a strong record of success, having won the First Prize for Teaching Achievements at Guangdong Ocean University for four consecutive times, and the Second Prize for Teaching Achievements of Guangdong Province in 2019. The Foreign Language and Literature Discipline was approved as one of the seventh round of university-level characteristic key disciplines. Furthermore, the College English Course was approved as a high-quality resource-sharing course in Guangdong Province.
Undergraduate Programs and Achievements
The faculty offers two undergraduate programs: English and Japanese. The English major was approved as a state-level first-class undergraduate major construction point in 2022. It is also recognized as one of the three applied talents training demonstration majors in Guangdong Province, the first comprehensive reform pilot major of the applied undergraduate demonstration major construction point, the ideological and political demonstration pilot major of Guangdong Ocean University, and the university’s pilot excellent talents training program.
In the university’s undergraduate professional evaluation, the English and Japanese majors achieved first and third place, respectively, in the liberal arts group.
Faculty Staff
The faculty boasts 91 highly-qualified full-time teachers, including 3 professors and 19 associate professors. Among the staff, 11 hold doctoral degrees and 9 are doctoral candidates. Additionally, more than 5 foreign teachers are currently working here.
