Qingdao University is located in the historical and cultural city of Qingdao, which carries the history of the development of higher education in the city and is full of the rich atmosphere of the times.
The history of the university can be traced back to the founding of the Qingdao Special College of Higher Education in 1909. For more than 100 years, the school has been teaching profound knowledge and cultivating great talents, and in response to the needs of the country, the school has passed on its tradition and made great contributions to the economic and social development of the region and the progress of human civilization, with more than 400,000 outstanding alumni coming from here. It is ranked 401-500th in the world for two consecutive years in the 2019 and 2020 SoftTech World University Academic Rankings, and entered the top 100 in the 2021 SoftTech China University Rankings. The Hospital of Qingdao University has been ranked among the top 100 best hospitals in China for six consecutive years.
The university has three campuses: Fushan Campus, Jinjialing Campus and Songshan Campus, covering an area of 2,655 mu and a building area of 1.14 million square meters. The university has beautiful scenery, pleasant environment, rich teaching and research resources, and complete conditions and facilities. The fixed assets are 3 billion yuan, with a collection of 3.25 million books and 1.6 million electronic books. It hosts 8 academic journals. The university has 34 colleges and medical departments, enrolling 79 undergraduate majors, covering 10 disciplines including literature, history, science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, law, education and art. There are 10 post-doctoral stations, 13 first-degree doctoral programs and 2 types of doctoral degrees, and 38 first-degree master’s programs and 28 types of master’s degrees.
The university has 2 national key disciplines, 20 key disciplines in Shandong Province, and 8 first-class disciplines in Shandong Province. There are 38 key laboratories, engineering technology research centers, collaborative innovation centers and humanities and social science research bases at provincial and ministerial levels.
“During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the university has undertaken 820 national projects including National Key Research and Development Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Social Science Foundation of China, etc. (142 National Natural Science Foundation of China projects were approved in 2020, ranking first among provincial universities for five consecutive years; 25 National Social Science Foundation of China projects, ranking 39th in China); published 13,090 SCI-indexed papers, 544 SSCI-indexed papers and 970 CSSCI papers; received 1 Second Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress and 76 provincial and ministerial awards; more than 1,300 patents were granted.
Qingdao University adheres to the strategy of internationalization, and has established friendly exchange and cooperation with more than 180 institutions in nearly 30 countries and regions, and established more than 200 projects for teacher-student exchange, joint training and cooperative research. The university has established 2 Confucius Institutes in foreign countries. There are 96 countries of origin for international students.
