University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS), based on the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was established by integrating the undergraduate education and part of the postgraduate education resources of China Youth University of Political Science. The University is guided by Marxism, adheres to the leadership of the Party, adheres to the correct direction of schooling, adheres to the policy of running a socialist university with Chinese characteristics, and is committed to cultivating politically reliable, well-mannered, theoretically profound and academically superb reserve talents in philosophy and social sciences, cultivating red and professional, moral and talented, all-round development of the successors and builders of the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics, and striving to become a First-class socialist liberal arts university.
The University is affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and employs members of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, researchers, associate researchers, discipline leaders, as well as famous professors at home and abroad, national Changjiang scholars, national teaching masters, national “100 million talents project” candidates, famous discipline leaders and leading talents at home and abroad, to form a high quality faculty with high moral character, excellent business, reasonable structure and vigor, to provide strong support for the teaching and training of undergraduates.
The special training methods include the “mentor-apprentice” mentoring model, in which undergraduate academic supervisors are set up to supervise 2-5 students each; “undergraduate-master-graduate” integrated training, in which continuous training is piloted in certain basic disciplines and key disciplines; international joint training, in which undergraduates pursue their degrees overseas; teaching and research are combined, and undergraduates are encouraged to participate in the research activities of the university and their supervisors, etc.
The University is located in the Liangxiang Higher Education Park in Fangshan District, Beijing, covering an area of 494,000 square meters. It has a collection of more than 5.54 million books and shared books, as well as a wealth of Chinese and foreign academic digital information resources. The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) was established in 1977, with the advantages of a complete range of disciplines, a concentration of talents, and a wealth of materials, to carry out theoretical exploration and policy research creatively in the process of China’s reform, opening up and modernization, and to shoulder the mission of improving the level of Chinese humanities and social sciences as a whole. The three major positions of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences proposed by the Party Central Committee in the new era are: a strong position of Marxism, an important think tank and think tank of the State Council of the Party Central Committee, and the highest temple of Chinese philosophical and social science research.
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has six university departments, covering the major disciplines of philosophy and social sciences, including Marxism, philosophy, religion, linguistics, literature, history, archaeology, economics, political science, law, sociology, ethnology, journalism and communication, management, and library/intelligence and documentation.

Over the past 40 years since its establishment, several generations of academic masters and experts and scholars have strived to inherit Chinese civilization, actively promoted research and innovation in basic theories of philosophy and social sciences, and dedicated a large number of major research results that are of great significance to cultural accumulation and discipline construction, have a significant impact at home and abroad, and can represent national standards. By the end of 2016, the institute had completed 12,938 monographs, 14,7003 academic papers, 27,140 research reports, 3,724 translations, 23,473 translations, 33,266 kinds of academic materials, 514 kinds of ancient books, 1,108 teaching materials, 1,819 kinds of popular reading materials, and 1,886 tools. In addition, there are a large number of theoretical propaganda articles and other forms of scientific research results.
As an important think tank and think tank of the State Council of the CPC Central Committee, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has given 31 lectures on law, party building, economy, culture and other fields since the implementation of the collective study system of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. A number of scholars from several research institutes have participated in drafting important documents, laws and speeches of the Party and the State, and have undertaken a series of major research tasks assigned by the Party Central Committee and the State Council. In recent years, we have built 18 think tanks at the institutional, institute and specialized levels, and launched a large number of research results, giving full play to the functions of theoretical research, public opinion guidance and social services. The global think tank report released by the Think Tank Studies Program (TTCSP) of the University of Pennsylvania in 2016 shows that the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ranks first among Chinese think tanks.
CASS has leading and unique literature resources in the academic world. The library of the Faculty of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences holds 1.706 million volumes, the library of the Graduate School holds more than 405,000 volumes, and the libraries of the institutes hold 3.429 million volumes. The libraries of the Institute of History, the Institute of Literature, the Institute of Archaeology and other branch libraries are among the top professional libraries in China in terms of the number and quality of rare books in their collections, and enjoy a high reputation in academic circles at home and abroad.
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has the largest academic journal group in the field of humanities and social sciences in China, with the most complete disciplinary structure and the strongest comprehensive strength. The Academy has 82 academic journals, most of which are authoritative and core journals in their disciplines and have high status and influence in academic circles at home and abroad. There are 106 national academic groups in charge.
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has 16 first-level postdoctoral research stations, covering all the first-level discipline doctoral sites, and 35 research institutes with postdoctoral recruitment qualifications. In the national comprehensive evaluation of post-doctoral work, five post-doctoral research stations have been awarded as “excellent post-doctoral research stations”, accounting for nearly a quarter of the excellent post-doctoral stations in humanities and social sciences nationwide.
Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Established in 1978 with the personal approval of Comrades Deng Xiaoping and Ye Jianying, the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences is a postgraduate training base directly under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and one of the earliest graduate schools in China. Its main mission is to train doctoral and master students in various disciplines of humanities and philosophy and social sciences. As the graduate school with the most complete set of humanities and social science disciplines in China, it has 17 first-level disciplines for doctoral degree, 16 first-level disciplines for master’s degree, 108 second-level disciplines for doctoral degree, 114 second-level disciplines for master’s degree, and 8 master’s degree authorization points for finance, taxation, law, social work, cultural relics and museums, business administration, public administration, Chinese international education, etc.; there are There are 757 supervisors for doctoral students and 1,132 supervisors for master’s students.
