DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY, HONG KONG BAPTIST UNIVERSITY

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (PR0705/22-23)

1. Post-doctoral Research Fellow in molecular biology and microscopic imaging with DNA probes or nanobody

We are looking for multiple postdoctoral researchers for a Hong Kong government funded project (ITF) that focuses on the development of an automated system for super resolution imaging and image processing with enhanced sensitivity. The candidate is responsible for designing and optimising primers for specific genes or genomic fragments especially those that are located within heterochromatic regions. The candidate will also conduct hybridisation using the primers by conjugating them with our customised fluorescent compounds to be synthesised by our collaborator. The candidate will also benchmark the performance of staining with the existing commercially available fluorescent labelling reagents and optimise the hybridisation conditions for image acquisition either by confocal or super resolution microscope.
Applicants with a PhD degree in molecular biology, genetics and/or computational biology are encouraged to apply. Solid background in molecular biology, genome editing and microscopy is essential for the successful implementation of the project. The candidate is expected to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
In addition, we are also seeking postdoctoral researchers who will be responsible for the development of nanobody-based staining technique in combination with our customised fluorescent compounds. Candidates with relevant expertise in nanobody production, staining and imaging in living cells are encouraged to apply.

2. Post-doctoral Research Fellow in imaging processing or computational biology

We are seeking postdoctoral researcher for developing methodology in segmentation, 3D reconstruction and quantitative analysis of microscopic images mentioned above. The appointee is expected to develop image processing methods that allow automated segmentation of 2D and 3D time-lapse microscopic images. The candidate will also develop method for automated measurement of fluorescence intensity of the specific target within the microscopic images. Applicants should have a PhD degree in computer science or related subject. Candidates with strong background in image processing, programming with PYTHON, Java, MATLAB, SQL and/or C++ are encouraged to apply. Knowledge in molecular biology-related areas is a plus but not required.

The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three year. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of the funding. Monthly salary will be HK$35,000 per month plus additional monthly allowance of HK$10,000 for a fixed term of 36 months and benefits in MPF and medical care.
