About

The School of Law at Yantai University traces its origins to the Department of Law established in 1984 with support from Peking University’s Department of Law. It was one of fewer than 20 law departments nationwide at the time and was elevated to a school in 1999.

The School has long maintained an outstanding faculty led by distinguished scholars. It currently employs 75 full-time faculty members, including 19 professors and 24 associate professors. Among them, 27 faculty members have overseas study or visiting scholar experience, including 6 foreign faculty members.

The School offers two undergraduate programs: Law and Intellectual Property. Since 2013, it has collaborated with Western Oregon University in the United States to deliver an undergraduate program in Law (Criminal Information Analysis). In the 2023 “Shanghai Ranking’s China University Subject Rankings,” the Law program was rated level A, while the Intellectual Property program received a B+ rating. The School currently enrolls 1,627 full-time students, comprising 1,368 undergraduates and 259 master’s candidates.

Requirements for the Common Law Instructor Position

  • Candidates should hold a JD, SJD, or Master of Law degree. Prior teaching experience or experience as a practicing lawyer is highly desirable.
  • Applicants must have no criminal record. Familiarity with Chinese culture is a plus.
  • The standard workload involves 10 teaching hours per week (each hour being 45 minutes), plus two weekly office hours. An additional 0 to 6 teaching hours per week may be required, depending on the current schedule. Off-campus part-time employment is not permitted.
  • The successful candidate is expected to abide by all Chinese government culture, laws, and regulations.

Benefits and Compensation

  • The basic monthly salary is RMB 15,000 (pre-tax), paid for the basic workload.
  • Any additional teaching hours beyond the basic workload will be compensated at RMB 400 (pre-tax) per hour, paid at the end of each semester.
  • A free, fully furnished apartment with all necessary appliances will be provided (a separate accommodation contract must be signed), or the instructor may opt for a monthly housing allowance of RMB 2,500.
  • A medical allowance of RMB 1,000 is provided each semester.
  • A tournament allowance of RMB 1,000 is also granted per semester.
  • An annual allowance of RMB 10,000 for international flight tickets is offered (RMB 5,000 paid each semester).
  • A contract renewal bonus equivalent to one month’s salary will be paid upon signing a new contract.
  • Health Insurance is provided free of charge.
  • The university will cover the application fees for the residence card and foreign expert certificate.
  • The position includes paid winter and summer holidays, in addition to all standard Chinese national holidays.
