About Westlake University
Westlake University is a new type of non-profit higher education institution organized by social forces and supported by the state, and organized by Hangzhou Westlake Education Foundation. The university is expected to draw on the scale of Caltech and Stanford University, with the orientation of “high starting point, small but precise, and research-oriented”, focusing on science, life and health, and frontier technology to establish first-level disciplines. The university has been approved to establish a national postdoctoral research institute. The university has been approved to establish a national postdoctoral research station and has the qualification to independently recruit postdoctoral researchers.
From 2017 to 2021, there is no undergraduate enrollment plan and the full-time enrollment is 1,220 students. 19 Phase I PhD students and 120 Phase II PhD students enrolled in Fall 2017 and Fall 2018.
As of July 2020, there are 124 postdocs and 334 PhD students, and 279 new PhD students will be welcomed soon. A number of original achievements in cutting-edge basic research are being bred.
In 2023, enrollment and training of undergraduate students will begin.
In 2026, the size of full-time enrollment is expected to reach 5,000 students, including 3,000 graduate students and 2,000 undergraduates, and the size of the faculty (professors, associate professors, and assistant professors) will reach 300. Read More.
